I’m guessing you have been there before. The panic sets in. You furiously try and remember. Possibilities overwhelm you. Negative outcomes take your breath from you. Something important is lost.
It happened to me last night. I walked in the house, reached to pull my wallet out of my pocket, and there was nothing there. Where did it go?
What goes through your mind when something goes missing?
I thought about where I was the last hour of my day and proceeded to re-visit each place.
First I checked the van. It was dark and so a cursory glance yielded nothing.
Then I drove to the TV station where I remembered having my wallet out, and on my desk. It wasn’t there.
Next stop, was the church where I had picked my son up from Awana. The church was closed but I knew if I dropped my wallet, it would have been getting in or out of the van. No such luck. I headed home with thoughts of all that I had lost.
-My drivers license (Someone could steal my identity?)
-My debit and credit cards (Someone could steal my money?)
-My gift cards (Someone could enjoy eating out, without me?)
I was resigned to the fact that a lot of work lied ahead for me, if I couldn’t find my wallet. I wasn’t as upset about the loss of stuff, as I was about the amount of time it would take to cancel cards and get a new license.
But the search continued.
Jesus talks about a some similar search in Luke 15:8 .
“Suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
God loves every single person so much. It’s a personal, what would I do without you, type of love. My prayer for you today, is that you allow the knowledge of that love, and the words in those verses, soak into your heart, so that you know without a shadow of a doubt, that you are loved by the Most High God!
By the way, I found my wallet. It had slid to the other side of the van, shielded by darkness. My wife and I were out in the driveway at 9:15pm with flashlights. The relief I felt doesn’t compare to the relief and joy our Father feels when one person returns home to Him.
