I read this recently, written by my Facebook friend, Christy Callahan. Its all about healing and the scars that come with that, which if you’ve read any of my recent posts, you know I am in the middle of healing from a badly injured elbow!

“God gave me this picture and I wanted to share. When we go through trials in life it is like a wound on the flesh. It can get bloody, painful, be shallow or deep, and ooze junk from within that we didn’t know was there. We often put bandages on flesh wounds and we often do the same to life trials. This may be in the form of negative things – anger, bitterness, slander, and pull others down with us – like a un-sterile bandage. Or this may be in the form of positive things – reading God’s Word, prayer, allowing others to pray for us, forgiveness, and acceptance – like a sterile bandage with antibiotic cream! Those bandages, if clean or positive, can help the flesh wound to heal on the physical body as well as healing our spiritual being. But oftentimes a scar is left behind where the wound was at or the trial was encountered. Those scars should remind us of where we have been and help us to push forward to the future with a positive attitude. They should also be a tool in our ministry basket to help others who may go through that same trial in the future. God does not allow us to go through trials only for ourselves. He wants us to use those things in our past to help others in the future. When you slip and fall and scrape your leg at a particular place, don’t you warn your family or friends the next time you pass that place? Shouldn’t we as Believers do the same for our family and friends with life situations too??”

James 1:2-12 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. 9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wildflower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business. 12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
