What’s the best thing about Vacation Bible School? The stories? The snacks? The crafts? Fun times with friends? DuPont Church of the Brethren combined all of it plus much, much more during “In the Wild: Amazing Encounters with Jesus”
June 3-7, this church was transformed into a wild animal preserve. Equipped with a modern day safari vehicle , even “driven” by the pastor’s wife!
Plus, there was transportation dating back in time, thanks to Uber the camel. Be careful, don’t be in the line of his spit!
Organizer Amie Ashworth says 70-85 kids came out each night. That crew, plus 60 or so volunteers kept DuPont Church of the Brethren busy each night of VBS week!
Crafts, snacks, music, and more created multi generational learning experiences. And, in the name of friendly competition, kids designated offerings into a particular volunteer’s “bucket”. . The winning volunteer was awarded a pie in the face at the end of the week!
$478 will be donated to All God’s People, an organization in Chicago that helps the homeless. The church is connected with this organization after several youth mission trips and the VBS attendees voted to support All God’s People with their VBS offerings.
However, through it all, the main focus was on Jesus. John 20:31’s theme verse became well known to the Bible School attendees: “But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God and that by believing, you may have life everlasting.”
