God’s Child

Did you know you are a child of God? We had a wonderful opportunity to have church on the beach a couple of Sundays ago. My wife and I, our kids, and my niece and nephew each picked up a grain of sand and held it as we read from Genesis 22:16-18:

This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.

What a beautiful story of how God rewards faithful followers.

But I was drawn to the fact that I am a part of a community that is so vast! There was so much sand on that Port Aransas seashore, and that’s the example God gave Abraham, with regards to his ancestors! And as a follower of Jesus, I am linked to each person that has that same commitment to Him. What an amazing and powerful God, who is our Father!

When you feel alone, remember you aren’t.

There are thousands of people all around you, ready to link arms and walk with you.

When you start believing the lie that your life doesn’t matter, replace it with God’s truth that you are the fulfillment of this promise to Abraham.

Perhaps you feel like you aren’t being the son or daughter that God wants you to be? Remember Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son. The Father was waiting for his lost son to come home. And when he saw him, he ran out to meet Him.

Our God is ready, to welcome you back with open arms, to throw a party for you, and to celebrate. You are His child. His promise. His delight.
