This past Valentine’s Day started at 4:42am. I made my way down to New Bremen for one of our monthly FCA Coaches groups (if you would like to be a part of one, or help start a new one with me, just let me know! They are incredible!). On my way back, I stopped to get two gifts: flowers for my wife and my 6-year-old daughter, Anna.
I walked in the door with 2 bouquets and Anna said in a hopeful tone, “Is one of those for me?”
I handed her the colorful array of wildflowers that you see pictured here, and she could not have been more happy. “I love you so much!” she said to me, over and over, as we finished getting her ready for school. I told her that I had picked out flowers that had the colors she liked; yellow and purple. I didn’t spend a ton on them, but I got her a thoughtful gift that I knew she would love.
Jesus says His Father does the same for us, in Luke 11:11-12
Isn’t that an amazing statement from Jesus?
My gifts were paltry, but as a father, I gave something that my daughter would love. Our good Father in Heaven desires to give us so much more than we could ever comprehend – and He has, in the Holy Spirit. We have access to the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead. (Romans 8:11)
Let’s have the same thankful heart about God’s gift, as my daughter did about my gift. With gratitude, let us embrace the gift of the Holy Spirit, and stop trying to do life by ourselves.
