I love the smell of coffee. I remember as a kid, walking down the coffee bean aisle at the grocery store with my mom and sticking my nose next to the bean bins to get a giant whiff. This past Christmas season, we have visited my in-laws and I greatly enjoyed the smell of coffee brewing in the morning. Little did I know, as I breathed in the aroma, that a part of that smell would become a life lesson about filters.
Coffee Filters
Filters keep the bad stuff out of your cup of coffee in the morning. They keep the grounds from getting into your drink, and also catch harmful diterpenes (Trust me, these aren’t good. Take a look!)
Filters are important for our lives too.
Filters for our life
How many times have you heard someone say, “He has no filter when he talks.”
What do they mean by that?
We may be entertained by how forthright people without filters are, because they will speak their mind no matter who it affects. But then we think about the people that those hurtful words actually do affect. To be successful in life and in relationships we need to choose our words wisely. We need to filter our words from our brains to our mouths so that only good stuff comes out.
Spiritual Filters
Romans 12:2 talks about how God develops our filter.
God transforms us, by changing the way we think. The filtering process goes deep into our mind and what results is a fresh cup of goodness for all around us. I like to think of it as “a cup of holiday cheer,” that lasts all year long!
