I was awestruck. Disney movies were playing on the exterior of Cinderella’s Castle. Fireworks and lasers beamed overhead. And everyone’s favorite Disney songs were blaring over the speaker system at Magic Kingdom during the final night-time show.
All the while, voices around me were filling the air as people sang along.
It was cool and it gave everyone the sense that we were unified, all together in the moment.
“Letting it Go.”
Wondering, “Can You Feel the Love tonight?”
And then finding that “Love is an Open Door.”
At the end it was clear that, “I Just Can’t Wait to be King.”
Because it’s a “Whole New World.”
But then the grand finale came, and the sky grew silent. The songs ended, and everyone rushed to get out of the park to catch their bus, or monorail or boat or Uber.
Just like that, it was over.
Magical moments that lasted but a moment, and truly had no significant meaning in our lives. It was nothing more than a glorified karaoeke party.
All I could wonder is how many people do the same thing Sunday morning?
Singing songs together, enjoying some inspiring words and videos, and then rushing out the doors to see who makes it to lunch first.
Church can be an amazing place that connects you, refuels you, and unites, inspiring you to go change the world around you.
Or it can be a sing-a-long that gives you a few good feelings and that’s it. One hour, once a week, and nothing more.
Here’s the key: It’s up to you.
It’s not up to the worship team, or the pastor or the greeters or your fellow churchgoers.
How you engage in a worship gathering will be the catalyst for how God changes the world through you.
