We were in the Liberty-Benton press box for the Pat Wagner Memorial Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. It was around 40 degrees and windy outside which made us happy to be in the press box, as much as we could. But our room of the press box facility was a good 10-15 degrees cooler than the rest of the box that sits on top of the football stadium’s home bleachers. If you look at the picture attached, you’ll see why. The window where our audio cord ran into the building from the camera was cracked.
It was enduring the elements outside. When we set it up, I figured that a small crack wouldn’t be a big deal. But as the wind screeched through and the temperature quickly dropped in our little room, I knew I had been wrong.
A cracked window made all the difference.
The same can be said in our lives.
Do you have a problem with alcohol? One party with friends can lead to a night you regret and don’t even remember.
Is pornography a weakness? Don’t allow yourself to be alone with your phone, or without accountability software.
How about gossip? You may not be one to start an unhealthy conversation about someone, but you know who is, and you have the choice to spend time with that person.
Cracks in our lives
Maybe some other vice is coming to mind as you read this. Maybe you’re the only one who knows about that crack in your life. I encourage you to do what we did to warm up our press box.
Actually, it was Ethan Rex, one of our cameramen, who knew just what to do. He pulled out some duct tape and ripped off a nice long piece that extended from the ceiling all the way down to the cord. Then he patched what was left of the hole with a smaller piece. Within minutes our little room had warmed right back up.
Patching the Cracks
Maybe you long for that same, warm feeling in your heart. Patch up the crack. Many times, it will take a friend, like Ethan, to help you get the job done right.
Don’t tell us what God has shown you and don’t preach the truth. Just say what we want to hear, even if it’s false. 11 Stop telling us what God has said! We don’t want to hear any more about the holy One of Israel.
