Confidence

I’ve had the joy of listening to hundreds of students from 35 area high school choirs this week. Every year, we invite groups to the TV-44 studios to sing songs for the Holiday Music Festival that we will show on Christmas Eve and Christmas. Two things seem to set the best singers apart. Talent and Confidence.

Confidence

A confident singer with little talent is not a good equation. But, a good singer without confidence is only half of the artist they could be.

The same goes for our faith.

If we are confident in our own ability we end up failing. “Pride comes before the fall,” it says in Proverbs 16:18. Our bad ‘vocals’ are quickly exposed.

But if we place our confidence in God, everything else falls into order.

Paul’s Thoughts

Look at what Paul was confident of in Phillipians 1:6:
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Or the writer of Hebrews in chapter 4 verse 16:
“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Soloman provides some good insight in Proverbs 3:26:
“For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”

It was an interesting study. I couldn’t find any verses about people being confident in themselves, that ended well. But there was verse after verse about people finding their confidence in the Creator, and thus, finding life.

So when you sing those beautiful Christmas carols in the car or in church or at family gatherings, sing with a gusto and confidence that the one we honor this Christmas season will conduct your lifesong right on key.
