Fireworks were going off above my car, festive music was playing loudly through the speakers, and the driver in front of me kept weaving back and forth, bumping the guide-bar with each swerve. I was ready, but kept my distance as I felt like I was somewhere else.
It felt like the 4th of July!
I followed my son on the Tomorrowland Speedway at Disney World, as he made his maiden solo voyage. He had never driven before, and even came to a complete stop a few times. But each time he would get back on the open road.
As we got to the finish, and exited our cars, I said to him, “Nathan, why did you keep bumping back and forth? You need to keep the car going straight, and not drive so wild.”
Being Ready
With a big toothy grin, my son replied, “Daddy, it’s no wonder they don’t give drivers’ licenses to 8-year-olds. We are not ready to drive a real car!”
We both laughed. But the truth of the matter is, we aren’t equipped to handle the trials of life on our own. We need God’s help. And being a good Father, he provides just the help we need.
Jesus prepared His followers for trials that would come in a passage in Luke 12:11-12:
The Holy Spirit is still teaching us today what to say in times of trials, when friends are hurting and need just the right word. Perhaps it’s a child asking about who God is, and if He’s real? The Holy Spirit will provide just the right words.
The Spirit impresses upon our hearts how to react when things don’t go our way, and how to listen when someone needs to share.
Be encouraged my friend! You don’t have your license to drive through the twists and turns of this life, but our guide does. Let’s allow Him to show us the way.
