A couple of years ago, I was playing a game with my kids when my phone ‘dinged’. I had gotten a message. I was enthralled in the game, and the time with my kids, so I ignored the “ding” and kept playing. But my kids didn’t.
Anna took off to get my phone and brought it to me, urgently. “Daddy, you have a message!”
It knocked the wind out of me and broke my heart, all in the same motion.
How had I trained my kids to think that a message on my phone was more important than time with them?
It began a change (that, admittedly, is still a work in progress.)
When I’m with my family, my phone isn’t my priority. They are. My actions speak louder than my words.
It reminds me of the verse I shared with you just last week.
As parents, we are ambassadors for Christ! How we live, shows our kids how to live. Are we saying one thing with our mouths and another with our actions? Or does everything we communicate share this clear message of Hope: “Come back to God!”
