Have you ever tried walking on water? I never had. In my mind, I knew it was impossible but when I actually tried to do it last month, my perspective was enlarged. My foot slipped through the gulf waters like they were air. There was absolutely no chance that the waves could sustain my weight.
Yet, Jesus was able to walk on the water. He was able to change the scientific properties that He put into place.
Notice the disciples response to the miracle.
They were terrified. The miracle itself didn’t have them paralyzed with fear, but the fact that they didn’t know it was Jesus.
How often do we find ourselves fearful of the circumstances around us?
Fear
I believe fear comes when we are focusing on uncertainty. We get caught up in what we don’t know and what we can’t control, and it can paralyze us. When does that intense fear subside and disappear? The same time it did for the disciples: when we take our eyes off of uncertainty and put them on Jesus.
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. – Matthew 14:27-29
I can’t walk on water
I tried. But, I know the one who can. I can trust Jesus to do the water-walking in my life. And if He asks me to come to Him on the water, I will trust Him to make the miraculous happen!
