13 New Believers Say Yes to God

At the 49th session of the United Methodist Church, West Ohio Conference, 7 churches, within a 58 county region, were recognized for their enactment of Matthew 5:14-16. In this passage of scripture, we as believers are called to be the “light of the world.”

14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:14-16.

Light of the World

“Light of the World churches are outstanding in their commitment to shine the light of God’s love into their communities and reach new people for Christ,” read the event’s M.C.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Findlay was recognized for their work throughout the past year. Pastor Thomas Mellott and Director of Discipleship Ministries, Jennifer Miller, accepted the award in honor of the entire church.

St. Paul’s is a multi generational church which serves as a melting pot for both professional and blue-collar workers. They feature both contemporary and traditional worship, and truly saw God work throughout all of 2017. After zero professions of faith and baptisms in 2016, St. Paul’s welcomed 13 into the Kingdom of God, through profession of faith, and baptized 3 last year.

Other recipients of the 2017 Light of the World Award:

  • Ebenezer United Methodist Church (Capital Area North District)
  • Smith Chapel United Methodist Church (Foothills District)
  • Lockington United Methodist Church (Miami Valley District)
  • Cloverdale United Methodist Church (Maumee Watershed District)
  • Esperanza Viva United Methodist Church (Ohio River Valley District)
  • Fruitdale United Methodist Church (Shawnee Valley District)

A total of 56 professions of faith, and 45 baptisms took place within these churches in 2017.
