Transform your mind

What do you think about when you hear “mentally fit”? I’m sure there are many perspectives to what that means for each person, but I want to focus on being mentally fit with our thoughts. In other words, how can you transform your mind.

Philippians 4:8

Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:8 to think only about things that are positive. And I can bet you’re wondering, “what right does he have to say that? If only he knew what reality is like and how hard life is”, right? Actually, Paul owns us with these words more than you probably realize.

I encourage you to read the book of Acts if you are in need of a good mental cleanse. Paul’s story is an incredible New Testament narrative of what it means to live for Christ, no matter what is happening around you. It’s an excellent example of transforming your mind to a renewed one and how to live that out, effectively.

So, until then, let’s dive into some helpful ways you can renew your mind and become “mentally sound”.

1. Make a Thankful List

It might sound really simple and you may have even heard me recommend it before, but I cannot tell you enough, what thankfulness does for perspective. When we choose to focus on the good, bad cannot exist in our thoughts. Just like oil and water — they can’t mix. When we choose to focus on where God is in our life, the negative fades away on its own. There’s simply no room for it — unless you get rid of the light.

2. Realize God Already Won

The moment the veil was torn, we gained access to draw near to the throne of grace, with confidence. We have a distinct relationship with the Holy Spirit who dwells inside of those who believe. Revelation tells us God has the keys over death and hades (Rev. 1:17-18). So, in the end, it’s all good.

3. Serve Someone Who Isn’t Noticed

Our mental state has just as much to do with our physical state. Jesus said our words and actions are the windows to our heart. So by doing something for someone without their expectancy, you’ll experience a wonder of heaven that you won’t be able to explain. And the more you shift into a kingdom mindset, the more you’ll understand why it’s actually easy to think about the positive side of things.

What to Do With Temptation

Does this mean negative thoughts won’t creep in again? Absolutely not. There’s a very real liar who aims to pull you down any moment that he can. To some, he’s the accuser. To others, he’s just plain evil. But take comfort in knowing Jesus was tempted during the weakest state of his 40 day fast. And He gives us the perfect solution on how to overcome it: with scripture and promise. The more we soak in the Word with our minds, the more we’ll be able to fight off negativity with scripture. Negative thoughts simply come to us as temptation. And we have a very real choice to accept them, dismiss them or replace them.

Be encouraged, friend. God has won your battles already. Trust in His truth and begin to transform your mind.

Grace be with you,
Ashley
