Behold!

Andys Points of Life Behold

We were reading Isaiah 43:19 on the air yesterday and the 3rd time through, it struck me. Behold. I stopped and just focused on that one simple word.

Behold!

It’s a word that shapes how Christmas felt to me, growing up. I remember the awe and wonder I would feel with Christmas songs on our car radio during those cold, dark December nights. I remember thinking about God becoming a baby, and born in the most bleak of situation. I was amazed by the story. I remember thinking about the shepherds, visited by angels, while out in the field on a similar, dark night. As we drove, I’d picture that scene happening just beyond the road lights that were whirring by my window.

I would consider the star that the wise men followed. What dedication and wisdom they showed by searching for and finding Jesus.

Behold. I would behold a lot as a kid in the backseat of our station wagon. Beholding gave me peace and joy and it strengthened my faith.

Christmas “Busyness”

When did I stop beholding this amazing season? When did the busyness and the chaos of activities and work, of lights and Christmas movies and college football bowl games crowd out those moments spent thinking, wondering, and beholding? In that moment, under the TV lights, I found myself longing for another chance to behold. Another time to just sit and allow God’s presence to overwhelm my mind and soul.

I’m thankful that there’s still time to behold! We have 11 days until Christmas and then, some of us, have time after the presents are unwrapped and the family has gone their separate ways, to just rest and behold. Isaiah is a beautiful place to behold. Maybe you’re wondering that that verse, that stopped me dead in my tracks said.

“Behold, I will do something new,
Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,
Rivers in the desert.”

Will you behold with me this Christmas?
